Part-Time COO

Operating leadership without the full-time hire.

Your business has grown. Or you’ve lost a key person. Or things have just… drifted.

Either way, you need operating leadership…someone who can set priorities, hold the rhythm, drive execution, and make sure things don’t slip. But you don’t need (or can’t justify) a full-time COO.

That’s where a part-time COO comes in. You get dedicated operating leadership, on-site, remote, or a mix for the time you need it. Weekly cadence. Clear priorities. Execution governance. Continuous improvement. Someone in your corner making sure things actually get done.

Helping leadership lead and enabling your team to lead the way

When Part-Time COO Makes Sense

This isn’t for everyone. A fractional COO is for businesses at a specific inflection point where the need for operating leadership is real, but the timing or economics of a full-time hire don’t work.

→  You’ve grown fast and operations hasn’t kept up

The business is bigger now, but the systems, processes, and rhythms are still from when you were smaller. Things are starting to crack.

→  A key person has left and there’s a gap

Someone who held things together is gone. You need someone to stabilise, set priorities, and keep execution on track while you figure out the longer-term solution.

→  You need operating discipline but can’t justify full-time

You know you need a COO-type role, but the business isn’t at the scale (or stage) where a full-time executive makes sense.

→  You want to step back but can’t

You’re still in the weeds because nobody else is driving execution. You need someone to own the operating rhythm so you can focus on strategy, sales, or whatever only you can do.

You decide how much of the COO you need

How it works

You decide

Temporary COO is flexible. We design the engagement around what your business actually needs not a one-size-fits-all package.

Option 1: Full Day, Weekly

You get my full attention for one day per week. On-site, remote, or a mix, whatever works for you. This covers weekly rhythm, priority reviews, team check-ins, problem-solving, and working on the business (not just in it). If you need more than one day per week, we can discuss.

Option 2: Half Day On-Site + Off-Site Work

You get my full attention for one day per week. On-site, remote, or a mix, whatever works for you. This covers weekly rhythm, priority reviews, team check-ins, problem-solving, and working on the business (not just in it). If you need more than one day per week, we can discuss.

Option 3: Custom Arrangement

Every business is different. We'll figure out what makes sense, how many days, how much on-site vs remote, what the focus areas are. The goal is operating leadership that actually fits, not a template.

What a Typical Week Looks Like

Start of week:

Priority check-in. What’s on track, what’s at risk, where do we focus

During the week:

Working on live issues.Process fixes, team alignment, problem-solving

Team touchpoints:

Meetings with key people, driving accountability, unblocking work

Owner time:

1:1 with you. Strategic discussion, thinking partner, decision support

End of week:

Progress review. What moved, what didn’t, what’s next

What We’ll Focus On First

The first thing we do is set priorities. Not everything can be fixed at once and trying to fix everything at once is how teams burn out and nothing actually changes.

We’ll identify:

  • What needs to be stabilised: the areas where things are shaky and need immediate attention
  • What needs to be built: the systems or processes that are missing entirely
  • What needs to be protected: the things that are working and shouldn’t be disrupted
  • What can wait: the stuff that matters but isn’t urgent right now

Then we work through it systematically with weekly rhythm, clear ownership, and visible progress.

Investment

Engagement: Monthly retainer

Commitment: Typically starts with a 3-month initial period, then ongoing

Pricing: Based on time commitment and scope we’ll scope it together on a call

This isn’t a locked-in contract. If it’s not working, we’ll talk about it and either fix it or wind down. The goal is a partnership that adds value, not a retainer that drains budget.

Not Sure If You Need This?

If you’re not sure whether you need ongoing support or a one-off engagement, start with one of the sprints Operating Cadence Sprint, Quote-to-Cash Sprint, or the 90-Day Business Reset. We can always move into Fractional COO afterward if the need is there.

Ready to Talk?

Book a call and tell me what’s going on. If a part-time COO isn’t the right fit, I’ll tell you and point you to what is.
